The United States military has identified two soldiers who were killed in Jordan while supporting operations during the ongoing conflict with Iran. The Department of Defense said 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan, 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales, 19, of Carrollton, Texas, died while carrying out a mission against the Islamic State group.

The deaths were earlier confirmed by the US Central Command, which said two American service members were killed in Jordan while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks. The circumstances surrounding their deaths have not been publicly disclosed, and the military has not provided further details about the incident.

The US military has reported that at least 17 American personnel have died in connection with the conflict with Iran. The casualties highlight the risks faced by US forces stationed across the Middle East, where American bases and personnel have become vulnerable to missile, drone and other attacks as regional tensions have intensified.

The conflict has affected US military positions beyond Iran’s borders. Earlier in the fighting, an Iranian drone strike on a civilian port in Kuwait killed six American soldiers who were part of a supply and logistics unit. Another US service member later died after being wounded in an attack on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia, while six others were killed in March when a KC-135 refuelling aircraft crashed in Iraq during operations.

The US military also reported additional casualties in recent incidents, including the death of a Navy pilot in a helicopter crash in the Arabian Sea. The Navy said the July 1 crash was initially treated as an emergency landing and there was no indication that it was caused by hostile action. In northern Iraq, another American service member was killed during the controlled destruction of unexploded ordnance from a damaged Iranian drone.

The deaths come as the US government continues to defend its military campaign against Iran, with President Donald Trump stating that the operation is aimed at preventing Tehran from developing nuclear weapons. Iranian officials, meanwhile, have reported casualties from US strikes, saying dozens of people have been killed and hundreds wounded in recent weeks. The conflict has also caused deaths among civilians, foreign workers and others across Gulf countries, Israel and Lebanon.
