A routine aircraft test flight in the United Kingdom turned into an unusual aerial message when a pilot traced the words “I’M BORED” in the sky during a two-hour journey. The pilot, reportedly in his 20s, created the message while flying a Piper Tomahawk after maintenance work was carried out on the aircraft. The incident attracted attention after flight tracking data revealed the unusual pattern created over the region.
The aircraft, operated by Ravenair, took off from Liverpool at around 11:30 BST on Saturday. According to flight tracking information, the plane climbed to cruising altitude and followed a carefully planned route over parts of the Wirral peninsula, Cheshire and north Wales. The flight path appeared as the phrase “I’M BORED” when viewed on online tracking platforms.
After completing the message, the pilot continued with standard test procedures before returning the aircraft safely to Merseyside. The plane landed at approximately 13:30 BST after completing the required checks. The flight was carried out without passengers or cargo, as test flights are typically conducted after maintenance work to ensure that aircraft systems are operating properly.

Test flights usually involve specific manoeuvres such as climbs, descents and turns to assess aircraft performance and confirm that repairs have been completed successfully. In this case, the flight followed the necessary checks after a component, reportedly a cylinder, was replaced on the aircraft. The pilot’s creative flight path added an unexpected element to what would otherwise have been a routine technical evaluation.
Ravenair operations manager Wayne Barrett told the BBC that the pilot was likely “a bit bored” because it was only a test flight but acknowledged that creating the message required considerable flying skill and concentration. He said that while the pilot had to focus carefully to draw the letters accurately, the aircraft performed normally throughout the flight.
The incident generated widespread attention online, though the pilot did not face any disciplinary action. Barrett confirmed that the aircraft was safely returned to the hangar and that the pilot had completed the required work. The unusual flight has since become an example of how modern flight tracking technology can reveal creative patterns hidden in the skies.
