US President Donald Trump on Monday issued a warning to Oman amid ongoing discussions involving Iran over the management of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump threatened military action if Oman were to interfere with US objectives in the region. His remarks came as a 60-day ceasefire between the United States and Iran approaches its deadline.
Trump was responding to a question about parallel discussions between Iranian diplomats and Omani officials concerning a provisional arrangement for managing shipping through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. He warned that the United States could take military action if Oman obstructed its efforts. The remarks add to tensions surrounding the key maritime passage, which has become a major flashpoint in the ongoing conflict involving Iran and the United States.
Trump also urged Iran to surrender, according to Fox News journalist Trey Yingst, who shared details of the interview on social media. Trump characterised Iranian negotiators as skilled in negotiations but facing serious pressure. He also indicated that he was not working according to a fixed timetable and that the approaching US midterm elections would not influence his decision-making.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical international shipping route and a major passage for global energy supplies. Discussions involving Iran and Oman have focused on arrangements for shipping through the waterway amid heightened regional tensions. Oman has previously played a role in facilitating diplomatic contacts involving Iran and Western countries, making its position significant as efforts continue to manage the situation.
In a separate post on Truth Social, Trump reiterated that preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon remains his administration’s primary objective. He stated that this goal would remain unchanged regardless of developments in the wider conflict. The comments underline the central role of Iran’s nuclear capabilities in the US administration’s approach to the current confrontation.
Trump’s latest remarks come as the 60-day US-Iran ceasefire period approaches its end, adding uncertainty to the future of the fragile arrangement. Negotiations and diplomatic contacts involving Iran and regional countries are continuing as the deadline nears. Any disruption to shipping through the Strait of Hormuz could have wider implications for regional security and international energy markets.
