In a fiery response to the horrific beheading of Indian national Chandra Nagamallaiah in Dallas, Texas, President Donald Trump has unleashed a scathing attack on illegal immigration, promising swift justice and a crackdown on "immigrant criminals." The 41-year-old motel manager was savagely decapitated on September 10, 2025, at the Downtown Suites motel by 37-year-old undocumented Cuban immigrant Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, who faces capital murder charges.
Trump took to his Truth Social platform to express outrage, stating, "I am aware of the terrible reports regarding the murder of Chandra Nagamallaiah, a well-respected person in Dallas, Texas, who was brutally beheaded in front of his wife and son by an ILLEGAL ALIEN from Cuba who should have never been in our Country." He vowed to prosecute Cobos-Martinez "to the fullest extent of the law" with first-degree murder charges and declared, "The time for being soft on these Illegal Immigrant Criminals is OVER under my watch!"
The incident has ignited a national debate on border security, with Trump directly blaming the prior Biden administration for releasing Cobos-Martinez into the community despite his extensive criminal record. According to Trump, the suspect had prior arrests for heinous crimes including child sex abuse, grand theft auto, and false imprisonment. "This individual was previously arrested for terrible crimes... but was released back into our Homeland under incompetent Joe Biden because Cuba did not want such an evil person in their Country," Trump fumed.

CCTV footage from the motel, which quickly went viral on social media, captured the nightmarish scene in chilling detail. The video shows Cobos-Martinez, recently freed from custody, chasing Nagamallaiah with a machete across the parking lot. The assault unfolded in front of the victim's wife and 18-year-old son, as the attacker repeatedly struck the defenseless manager until he was decapitated. In a gruesome finale, Cobos-Martinez kicked the severed head into the parking lot before retrieving it and discarding it in a nearby dumpster.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has since confirmed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has initiated deportation proceedings against Cobos-Martinez. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin issued a blistering statement, asserting, "This gruesome, savage slaying... was completely preventable if this criminal illegal alien was not released into our country by the Biden Administration." Records show Cobos-Martinez was held at the Bluebonnet Detention Center in Dallas until his release on an Order of Supervision on January 13, 2025, during the Biden era.
Nagamallaiah, originally from India and a long-time resident of Dallas, was remembered by colleagues as a dedicated family man and pillar of the local community. His wife and son witnessed the unimaginable horror, and the family is now grappling with profound grief amid the ongoing investigation.
Trump's comments have amplified calls for stricter immigration enforcement, with supporters praising his resolve to "make America safe again." Critics, however, argue that the tragedy underscores broader systemic issues in immigration policy rather than a simple partisan failing. As the case progresses through the courts, it serves as a stark reminder of the human cost at the intersection of crime and migration debates.
The Dallas Police Department continues to investigate, with Cobos-Martinez held without bond. ICE's involvement ensures that, if convicted, he faces both criminal penalties and removal from the United States, aligning with Trump's pledge to prioritize public safety.
