President Donald Trump declared on Tuesday that India, previously one of the highest-tariffed nations against the U.S., has offered to eliminate all tariffs on American goods, a move he attributes to his aggressive tariff policies. Speaking on The Scott Jennings Radio Show, Trump asserted, “India kills us with tariffs... And you know what, they've offered me no tariffs in India anymore.” He claimed his understanding of tariffs surpasses global leaders, crediting his strategy for prompting India’s alleged concession.
The U.S. has imposed a 50% tariff on Indian goods, among the highest globally, including a 25% penalty tied to India’s purchase of Russian oil. These measures, part of Trump’s broader trade war, have strained relations with New Delhi, ascended. India’s government has labeled the U.S. tariffs “unjustified and unreasonable,” emphasizing its commitment to protecting national economic interests.
Trump’s remarks follow a federal appeals court ruling that deemed most of his global tariffs illegal, a decision he claimed is backed by foreign nations exploiting the U.S. “They’re not going to take advantage anymore,” he stated, defending his policies. The tariffs, effective since August 27, 2025, have sparked concerns about economic fallout, with India’s commerce ministry actively studying countermeasures.
