With just two days left for eligible voters to enrol in the electoral rolls ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, the Chief Electoral Officer has set March 26 as the last date for fresh registrations to be considered for polling on April 23.Applications received by March 26 will enable new voters to participate in the single-phase Assembly polls, while those submitted from March 27 onwards will be processed only after the elections conclude. The continuous updation process remains active, but the Election Commission has urged citizens to complete their enrolment promptly through Form 6 at designated centres or online portals to avoid missing the opportunity.
Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik has issued stringent guidelines on exit polls to ensure free and fair elections. Conducting, publishing, or publicising exit polls through any media platform will be strictly prohibited from 7 am on April 9 to 6.30 pm on April 29. This ban covers the entire period surrounding the polling and result declaration phases.
Patnaik further clarified that opinion polls and similar survey results cannot be displayed or disseminated on electronic media during the 48 hours immediately preceding the close of polling. Media houses, digital platforms, and all stakeholders have been directed to comply fully with these regulations, with violations attracting legal action under the Representation of the People Act.

The directives come as the Model Code of Conduct is already in force following the announcement of the election schedule. Tamil Nadu will witness polling for all 234 Assembly constituencies on April 23, with vote counting scheduled for May 4. The CEO’s office has appealed to voters to verify their names in the final electoral rolls published earlier and to report any discrepancies immediately.
With the polls approaching, election officials are intensifying awareness campaigns to encourage last-minute enrolments while maintaining strict vigilance on campaign and media activities. Eligible citizens aged 18 and above are advised to utilise the remaining window to secure their voting rights and contribute to the democratic process in the state.
