Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence company xAI has announced the launch of its latest AI model, Grok 4.5, claiming that the system is approaching the capabilities of leading models from competitors such as Anthropic. The release marks a major step in the company’s efforts to strengthen its position in the rapidly expanding artificial intelligence industry.
Musk said Grok 4.5 is designed to compete with advanced AI systems by combining strong performance with faster response times and lower operating costs. In a statement shared on X, he claimed that the company’s internal evaluation showed Grok 4.5 was roughly comparable in capability to Anthropic’s advanced models while delivering improved speed and efficiency.
The xAI founder said the company is focusing less on traditional benchmark results and more on practical usefulness in real-world applications. According to Musk, engineers at Tesla and SpaceX have found the model valuable for everyday professional tasks, suggesting that performance in actual workplace environments is a key measure of success.

According to xAI, Grok 4.5 is built to handle a wide range of knowledge-based tasks, including software development, application creation, research, writing, office-related work, and other professional activities. The company said the model is being made publicly available following feedback from users who tested it during a beta programme.
xAI has also highlighted competitive pricing as a major feature of the new model. The company announced lower usage costs compared with several rival AI systems, aiming to attract developers and businesses looking for powerful but affordable AI solutions. However, the model’s actual performance compared with competitors will likely become clearer as more users conduct independent testing.
The launch comes amid intense competition among major AI companies, with firms including Anthropic and OpenAI continuing to release advanced models. As the industry moves toward increasingly capable AI systems, Grok 4.5’s performance, reliability, and adoption by developers will determine whether xAI can close the gap with established leaders in the field.
