Russia launched a large-scale overnight barrage of drones and missiles across Ukraine, killing at least eight people and damaging residential buildings, industrial facilities and infrastructure, Ukrainian officials said. The attack involved drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles and struck several regions, including Kyiv, Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv.
The Ukrainian Air Force said Russia launched 130 drones and 48 cruise missiles, in addition to ballistic missiles, during the assault. Air defence units intercepted 161 targets, according to the Ukrainian military. The scale of the attack prompted residents in Kyiv to seek shelter in underground metro stations as air raid warnings were issued and explosions were heard across the capital.
Two people were killed in Kyiv, while four deaths were reported in Pryluky in the northern Chernihiv region and two in the central Poltava region. In Pryluky, a Russian missile struck a five-storey residential building, killing at least four people and injuring around 20 others, according to regional authorities. Rescue teams searched the damaged structure for survivors, with officials warning that more people could remain trapped beneath the rubble.

The overnight strikes also caused damage in several other locations. An industrial facility in Dnipro was hit, while transport infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia and apartment buildings in Kremenchuk were damaged, regional officials said. The attacks added to pressure on Ukraine’s air-defence network as authorities continue to seek additional systems and ammunition from international partners.
Russia’s Defence Ministry described the operation as a major strike against Ukraine’s military-industrial facilities. Moscow said its forces used high-precision weapons launched from land, sea and air, along with drones, and claimed that facilities connected to Ukrainian defence production were targeted. Russian authorities also said sites associated with Fire Point, a Ukrainian defence company involved in missile and drone production, were among those targeted. These claims could not be independently verified.
The barrage came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Ukraine had used a domestically produced ballistic missile in combat for the first time. Fire Point is also developing the FP-9 missile, which Zelenskiy has said could eventually have the range to reach Moscow. The latest strikes highlight the continuing intensity of the war and the challenges facing Ukraine as it seeks to strengthen its ability to protect cities and critical infrastructure from Russian attacks.
