Russian air strikes claimed one life in Kyiv on Sunday, while the death toll from a devastating Friday attack on Kryvyi Rih rose to 19, intensifying the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The Kyiv casualty was discovered near the epicenter of the strike in the Darnytskyi district, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko. Three others were injured as fires erupted in nonresidential zones, damaging vehicles and structures.

In Kryvyi Rih, the aftermath of Friday’s assault grew grimmer, with 19 fatalities—including numerous children—and 75 injuries reported. Oleksandr Vilkul, head of the city’s military administration, announced three days of mourning starting April 7, expressing solidarity and resilience. “Together we will stand,” he declared, vowing retribution for the losses. The strike ravaged 44 apartment buildings and 23 private homes, local officials confirmed.

Russia’s Defence Ministry asserted that Friday’s Kryvyi Rih attack targeted a restaurant hosting a meeting of unit commanders and Western instructors, claiming a high-precision missile strike killed 85 military personnel and destroyed 20 vehicles.

Ukraine’s General Staff dismissed these claims, and independent verification remains elusive.

Overnight, Russian forces unleashed 23 missiles and 109 drones across Ukraine, the Ukrainian air force reported. Air defenses downed 13 missiles and 40 drones, while 53 decoy drones were disrupted. Russia’s Defence Ministry countered that its air defenses neutralized 11 Ukrainian drones, including eight over Rostov and two over Kursk.

The escalating violence underscores the relentless toll on civilians and infrastructure, with both sides trading accusations amid unverified military claims. As Ukraine braces for further assaults, the human cost continues to mount, fueling calls for resilience and justice.
