Iran has reportedly adopted an unconventional approach in its diplomatic engagement with the United States, involving the use of senior psychiatric professionals to better interpret and respond to the negotiating behaviour of US President Donald Trump, according to a media report. The development comes amid ongoing discussions aimed at reaching a potential agreement to end hostilities in the Middle East and establish a framework for long-term peace.
Citing an Iranian official who was not authorised to speak publicly, a report by Drop Site claimed that Tehran included two senior psychologists in its advisory team following initial rounds of bilateral discussions in Islamabad in April. These specialists were reportedly tasked with analysing behavioural patterns and assisting negotiators in shaping communication strategies directed toward US representatives, particularly messages intended for transmission through regional intermediaries.
According to the report, the psychologists were brought in to help Iranian officials manage what they described as unpredictable or erratic responses during negotiations. The official quoted in the report suggested that the advisers were incorporated to improve the effectiveness of diplomatic messaging by anticipating emotional or behavioural reactions during high-stakes exchanges. However, these claims have not been independently verified, and no official confirmation has been issued by either side involved in the talks.

The report further stated that Iranian negotiators adjusted their communication style based on recommendations from the advisory team, aiming to ensure that formal correspondence and proposals were structured in a way that could withstand public and historical scrutiny. The official reportedly added that Iran sought to conduct negotiations in a manner that would demonstrate the strategic depth and diplomatic approach of each party if the records were ever made public in the future.
The discussions between the United States and Iran are said to be part of broader efforts to establish a Memorandum of Understanding that could potentially lead to a permanent cessation of hostilities in the region. While details remain limited, the negotiations have reportedly involved multiple rounds of indirect communication facilitated by regional actors, with both sides exploring possible terms for de-escalation.
The White House has not issued an official response to the report. Meanwhile, political observers note that public perception of leadership behaviour has increasingly become a factor in global diplomatic narratives, particularly in high-tension negotiations. The claims regarding the involvement of psychologists remain unverified and are part of a broader set of reporting on behind-the-scenes diplomatic strategies.
