As many as 17 children aged between six and 14 rode bicycles blindfolded for around five kilometres in Vijayapura as part of an initiative aimed at developing concentration, self-confidence and other abilities. The activity was organised by students of the ‘Learners Zone’ skill learning centre, who participated in the unusual demonstration in the city. Organisers said the children had been trained in a skill they described as ‘Gandhari Vidya’.

The bicycle ride was conducted on September 1, with the participating children attempting to complete the five-kilometre route while keeping their eyes covered. The organisers said the exercise was intended to demonstrate the abilities the children had developed through their training. The participants included children from different age groups, with those as young as six taking part in the activity.

According to the organisers, ‘Gandhari Vidya’ is presented as a skill that enables participants to perform routine activities while blindfolded. They said the training is intended to improve concentration and self-confidence while helping children identify and develop abilities that may otherwise remain unexplored. The bicycle ride was presented as a public demonstration of the skills claimed to have been acquired by the students.
