Punjab Police have arrested three alleged operatives of the Davinder Bambiha gang following their deportation from Malaysia, in an operation targeting suspects wanted in cases linked to organised crime. The arrests were carried out by the Overseas Fugitive Tracking and Extradition Cell (OFTEC) of the Counter Intelligence Wing with assistance from central agencies. Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav announced the arrests on Wednesday.
The accused have been identified as Jaspreet Singh, alias Jas Behbal, a resident of Faridkot, and Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh, both from Sri Ganganagar in Rajasthan. Punjab Police arrested the three at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi after they were deported from Malaysia. They were subsequently brought to Punjab, where investigators are questioning them in connection with multiple cases.
According to police, the three men were operating from Malaysia and were allegedly associated with the Bambiha gang. Authorities have linked them to cases involving murder, extortion, explosives and an alleged plan to carry out a hand-grenade attack in Ludhiana. Police have also alleged that some of the activities had links to Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), though the allegations remain subject to investigation and legal proceedings.

Additional Director General of Police (Counter Intelligence) Amit Prasad described the deportation and arrests as the result of a months-long intelligence-led operation. He said investigators had tracked the movements and activities of the suspects before coordinated efforts led to their detention in Malaysia and subsequent deportation to India. Inspector General of Police (OFTEC) Ashish Choudhary said Jaspreet had travelled to Malaysia in June 2019 and allegedly came into contact with a fugitive gangster, eventually becoming an important operative of the Bambiha gang.
Police said Jaspreet has been formally arrested in connection with a 2025 murder case involving Yadwinder Singh and the driver of Jeewanjot Singh Chahal, a former Panjab University, Chandigarh, leader. Investigators also alleged that Ajay Singh and Pawandeep Singh had tasked ground-level associates with carrying out a hand-grenade attack in Ludhiana in 2025. The Ludhiana Commissionerate Police had previously prevented the alleged attack by arresting two associates and recovering a P86 Chinese hand grenade on October 27, 2025.
The Punjab Police established OFTEC on the directions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann to identify and apprehend criminals operating from abroad and expedite their deportation or extradition. Authorities said the latest arrests reflect the cell's efforts to coordinate with central agencies and foreign authorities in tracking fugitives. Further investigation into the alleged criminal activities and the roles of the three accused is underway.
