A woman was allegedly murdered and her decomposed body dumped near a wild animal’s den in Rajasthan’s Rampura hills in an attempt to destroy evidence, police said. The crime came to light after the woman’s remains were discovered in the hilly area. Investigators subsequently began tracking the suspects, leading them across different parts of the country. One of the accused, Mohammad Sagar Ali, alias Shahbaz Khan, was eventually arrested in Bihar’s Saharsa district, nearly 7,000 kilometres away from the location where the body was allegedly abandoned.

According to police, the victim was identified as Muskan. Investigators allege that Sagar Ali killed her with the assistance of another man before transporting and dumping her body near the den of a wild animal. The accused allegedly chose the location in the hope that animals would consume the remains and make it difficult for investigators to recover evidence linked to the murder. The discovery of the decomposed body, however, prompted police to begin an investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death.

Police subsequently worked to trace the accused after collecting information and evidence connected to the case. The investigation eventually led officers to Saharsa district in Bihar, where Sagar Ali was arrested. The distance between the crime scene in Rajasthan and the location of the arrest highlights the scale of the police operation, which involved tracking the accused across thousands of kilometres. Investigators are also working to establish the exact circumstances of the murder and determine the role allegedly played by the second accused.

The arrest is expected to help investigators piece together the sequence of events leading to Muskan’s death and the subsequent disposal of her body.
