Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States President Donald Trump were seen standing together during the traditional G7 leaders’ family photograph session at the G7 Summit in Evian, France, drawing attention as the two leaders shared their first face-to-face interaction in around 16 months. The summit brought together leaders of major global economies alongside invited partner nations, with India participating as a guest country.
During the pre-photograph interaction, as leaders gathered for the customary group picture, Prime Minister Modi was heard saying, “We are always ready,” in response to a prompt about readiness ahead of the photoshoot. The brief exchange came as world leaders assembled for one of the symbolic moments of the summit, which included cultural showcases and formal diplomatic engagements.
The interaction between Modi and Trump marked a notable moment in India-US relations, as it was their first in-person meeting since February 2025, when the Indian Prime Minister last visited the White House in Washington, DC. Unlike earlier meetings where the two leaders were often seen exchanging warm gestures, this encounter was marked by a handshake and brief conversation before they joined other heads of state for summit proceedings.

Diplomatic engagement between India and the United States continues to remain significant across multiple sectors, including trade, defence, technology, and global security. However, recent tensions have emerged over tariff-related policies affecting Indian exports, as well as broader geopolitical developments that have influenced bilateral discussions between the two nations.
The summit comes at a time when India-US relations are under close international attention, with both sides expected to explore areas of cooperation on the sidelines of the G7 meeting. Reports suggest that Modi and Trump are also likely to hold a separate bilateral discussion during the summit to address key regional and strategic issues.
The G7 Summit, which includes France, the United States, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom, serves as a platform for discussions on global economic stability, trade, climate change, security and emerging technologies. Alongside member nations, partner countries such as India, Brazil, Kenya, South Korea and the United Arab Emirates have also been invited to participate in this year’s edition.
