Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Amman, Jordan, on Monday for a two-day visit, marking the start of his three-nation tour. He was received by Jordan’s Prime Minister Jafar Hassan and will hold discussions with King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein to enhance bilateral relations between India and Jordan.
The visit, taking place from December 15 to 16, coincides with the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between India and Jordan. Leaders are expected to review cooperation across trade, culture, technology, and regional security, highlighting the long-standing partnership between the two nations.
During his stay, PM Modi will also engage with the Indian community in Jordan, reinforcing people-to-people connections that have historically strengthened bilateral relations. The visit is seen as a platform to deepen economic, strategic, and cultural cooperation.

Following Jordan, the Prime Minister will travel to Ethiopia from December 16 to 17, marking his first-ever visit to the African nation. In Addis Ababa, he is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali and address a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament, focusing on Global South partnerships and India-Ethiopia collaboration.
The Ethiopia leg also underscores India’s ties with the African Union, whose headquarters are in Addis Ababa. PM Modi’s engagement highlights the strategic importance of Africa in India’s foreign policy, especially following the AU’s admission as a permanent G20 member during India’s 2023 G20 Presidency.
The tour will conclude in Oman from December 17 to 18, at the invitation of Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. The visit aims to strengthen India-Oman Strategic Partnership, reviewing cooperation in trade, energy, defence, and technology, while celebrating 70 years of diplomatic relations and engaging with the Indian diaspora that contributes significantly to Oman’s development.
