Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Évian-les-Bains, France, to attend the 52nd G7 Summit, marking India’s 13th participation as a guest nation. The visit also represents Modi’s seventh consecutive appearance at the global forum, where leaders from major economies are meeting to discuss pressing international political and economic challenges.
On arrival, Modi said he looked forward to engaging with global leaders and exchanging views on key global issues. In a post on X, he stated that India remains committed to advancing collective efforts for a more sustainable and prosperous future. The summit, being held from June 15 to 17, brings together the G7 nations—Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States—along with invited partner countries.
A key focus of the visit will be Modi’s bilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump, scheduled for Wednesday on the sidelines of the summit. The meeting comes at a time when India and the United States are engaged in ongoing discussions over a trade agreement and broader strategic cooperation. It will also be the first face-to-face interaction between the two leaders since their talks in February 2025.

The bilateral engagement is expected to cover a wide range of issues, including trade relations, regional security, and developments in global energy markets. The timing of the meeting has drawn additional attention following recent maritime tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, where a US naval operation reportedly resulted in the deaths of three Indian mariners aboard a commercial vessel.
India’s participation in the summit is being viewed as part of its continued effort to strengthen diplomatic engagement with advanced economies while positioning itself as a key voice in global economic and security discussions. Officials note that the platform also allows India to present its perspective on climate action, energy transition, and global supply chain stability.
As the summit progresses, attention will remain on Modi’s bilateral interactions, particularly the high-profile talks with Trump, which are expected to shape the next phase of India-US relations amid evolving geopolitical and trade dynamics.
