Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday held high-level talks in Tehran with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, during which he delivered a written message from Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, according to official Iranian statements. The visit comes amid renewed diplomatic activity in the region and ongoing efforts involving Pakistan to facilitate dialogue in West Asia.
Iranian authorities confirmed the meeting through posts on social media platform X, stating that Naqvi personally handed over an envelope to Araghchi during the discussions. While photographs released by Iranian officials showed the exchange, the contents of the message were not disclosed, and it remains unclear whether the envelope contained the full text of the written communication or only part of it.
According to the Iranian foreign ministry, the talks between Naqvi and Araghchi covered a wide range of bilateral and regional issues. Both sides reportedly reviewed the current state of Pakistan–Iran relations and exchanged views on the evolving diplomatic situation in the Middle East. Iranian statements indicated that the discussions also touched upon an ongoing diplomatic process that Pakistan is reportedly mediating in relation to broader regional tensions.

In addition to formal diplomatic messaging, the two leaders also discussed avenues for strengthening cooperation between Islamabad and Tehran. Areas of mutual interest were reportedly highlighted, with both sides expressing willingness to expand engagement in political, security, and economic domains. The meeting was described as part of continued efforts to maintain open channels of communication between the neighbouring countries.
The visit comes at a sensitive time in regional geopolitics, with Pakistan reportedly increasing its diplomatic outreach to support dialogue mechanisms involving the United States and Iran. While officials have not confirmed specific details of Pakistan’s mediation efforts, the timing of Naqvi’s visit and the delivery of the written message have drawn attention from observers tracking developments in West Asia.
Iranian officials did not provide further details on the contents of the message or any formal response from the Supreme Leader’s office. However, both sides emphasised the importance of continued diplomatic engagement and maintaining stable bilateral relations amid broader regional uncertainties. The meeting underscores ongoing efforts by regional actors to manage tensions through backchannel diplomacy and structured political dialogue.
