Pakistan’s Army Chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, landed in Beijing for his first visit since his promotion, holding high-stakes talks with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, and top military official General Zhang Youxia. The meetings, buzzing with discussions on deepening ties, focused on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), regional security, and counter-terrorism, amid concerns over attacks on Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
Munir, fresh off a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to protecting Chinese personnel and projects, promising to combat terrorism and elevate bilateral cooperation. Chinese leaders praised Pakistan’s role in regional peace, calling the nations “iron-clad friends.”
The talks underscored a shared vision for a stronger China-Pakistan partnership, with both sides vowing to implement their leaders’ consensus and boost military and economic ties. This visit, hot on the heels of recent India-Pakistan tensions, signals Islamabad’s push to solidify its strategic alliance with Beijing.
