On India’s 79th Independence Day, Israeli President Isaac Herzog and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu extended heartfelt greetings, emphasizing the flourishing strategic partnership between the two democracies. In a message on X, Herzog expressed gratitude for India’s support during challenging times, stating, “Your friendship with Israel in these difficult days strengthens us deeply. May the bond between our nations continue to flourish.” Netanyahu, addressing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a “dear friend,” highlighted their shared history, innovation, and friendship, adding, “The best chapters of our partnership still lie ahead.”
The celebrations saw India’s Ambassador to Israel, JP Singh, hoist the tricolour in Tel Aviv before 350 Indian community members. Singh underscored the deepening bilateral ties, noting the 40,000-strong Indian diaspora’s contributions, particularly as caregivers and workers addressing Israel’s labor shortages. He praised the Indian Jewish community as a “powerful bridge” fostering mutual respect. Amir Ohana, the first Israeli Knesset Speaker to visit India in 2023, congratulated Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in Hindi on X, reinforcing the cultural connection.
Across Israel, the Indian diaspora and Indian-origin Jews, including those at the Beersheba Cricket Club, celebrated with pride. Naor Gudker, chairman of the club, told PTI, “We have lived in Israel since childhood but hold our Indian roots dear. India was the only country where Jews never faced anti-Semitism.” The vibrant events, marked by cultural pride and unity, underscored the promising future of India-Israel relations as both nations look to write new chapters of collaboration.
