Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian sharply ridiculed Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s pledge to assist Iran with its severe water crisis, calling it a “mirage” and questioning Israel’s credibility. In a post on X, Pezeshkian accused Israel of denying Palestinians access to water and food in Gaza, stating, “A regime that deprives people of Gaza from water and food says it will bring water to Iran? A MIRAGE, NOTHING MORE.”
Speaking at a Cabinet meeting in Tehran, Pezeshkian further criticized Netanyahu’s offer as disingenuous, urging Israel to address Gaza’s humanitarian crisis, where children face hunger, lack of potable water, and medical shortages due to a “brutal siege.” His remarks came in response to Netanyahu’s video message on Tuesday, reported by The Jerusalem Post, promising aid to Iran once it is “free” from its current government—a statement tied to Israel’s broader geopolitical narrative.
Iran’s water crisis, exacerbated by years of drought and mismanagement, has left the country in a “serious and unimaginable” state, Pezeshkian admitted to officials on Sunday. He highlighted the depletion of groundwater and dam reserves, with experts scrambling for solutions. The exchange follows heightened tensions after Israel’s June 2025 airstrikes on Iran, which killed nearly 1,100, including military commanders, and Iran’s retaliatory strikes that claimed 28 lives in Israel.
