The escalating military conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran has entered its seventh day, violently expanding across the Middle East and pushing the regional death toll to 1,450. What began as a targeted, joint US-Israel strike that killed Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has now morphed into a massive, multi-front war. The unprecedented assassination has triggered severe retaliatory measures, transforming localised hostilities into a rapidly widening confrontation that involves synchronised missile barrages, devastating air strikes, and complex naval skirmishes spanning multiple sovereign territories.
The geographic scope of the violence has broadened significantly, drawing neighbouring Gulf nations directly into the crossfire. Fresh explosions have rocked Manama, Bahrain, where Iranian strikes reportedly hit residential buildings and a hotel. Simultaneously, Kuwaiti authorities are actively intercepting incoming missile and drone attacks targeting US bases within their borders, while the United Arab Emirates confirmed it has intercepted nine ballistic missiles and over 100 drones. In direct retaliation, Israel deployed 50 fighter jets to strike an underground bunker in Tehran and destroyed multiple Iranian missile launchers overnight, prompting Iran to launch a new wave of projectiles toward Tel Aviv.
The widening war has caused immense collateral damage and severe disruptions to global infrastructure. International aviation has been thrown into chaos, with over 27,000 flight cancellations recorded as commercial airlines suspend routes to volatile zones like Beirut and Tel Aviv. The maritime domain is equally unstable; following the sinking of an Iranian warship and the subsequent rescue of 208 crew members by Sri Lanka, the US Navy has announced imminent plans to escort commercial vessels through the critical Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis is deepening in Lebanon, where intense Israeli air strikes and Hezbollah evacuation orders have displaced over 100,000 civilians.

Diplomatically and politically, the conflict is radically reshaping global alliances and domestic American politics. Iran appears increasingly isolated on the world stage, with long-time partners Russia and China deliberately steering clear of the escalating violence. In the United States, deep political divisions are fracturing Washington over President Donald Trump’s use of war powers. Despite the intensifying military campaigns and his public backing of Kurdish attacks on Iranian assets, President Trump has explicitly stated that deploying US ground troops into Iran would be a "waste of time", signalling a preference for continued aerial and proxy engagements as the global crisis unfolds.
