Manipur Police arrested nine individuals in Bishnupur district on Tuesday, including six members of the Meitei organization Arambai Tenggol and three militants from the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG), in a significant crackdown on violence and extortion in the region.
The six Arambai Tenggol members, identified as Laishram Sanahal Singh (26), Laishram Rishikanta Singh (20), Laishram Premchand (18), Kangabam Nongdamba Singh (23), Sarangthem Rabichandra alias Rabi (28), and Yumnam Jaswant Singh (22), were apprehended for assaulting state police personnel during a bandh in Bishnupur on June 9.
In a separate operation, police arrested two KCP(PWG) militants, Laitonjam Ramakanta Meitei (34) and Thongam Herojit Singh (38), in Utlou for extorting money from the public and businesses in Nambol. Meitei, a self-styled section commander, reportedly led over 15 cadres, with efforts ongoing to capture the rest. Additionally, Thoudam Santosh Singh (23), another KCP(PWG) cadre, was arrested in Moirang Okshongbung for extorting funds from schools and colleges in Thoubal district.

The arrests mark a robust response by Manipur authorities to curb violence and illegal activities, with police intensifying efforts to dismantle the networks of both Arambai Tenggol and the banned militant outfit.
