External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar held a significant meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday, focusing on deepening the robust India-Russia partnership. The discussions, held in Moscow, aimed to bolster cooperation across various domains, reinforcing the enduring ties between the two nations.
The meeting followed Jaishankar’s comprehensive talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, where the emphasis was on expanding trade relations. Speaking at a joint media briefing with Lavrov, Jaishankar highlighted the stability of India-Russia relations, stating, “We believe that relations between India and Russia have been among the steadiest of the major relationships in the world after the Second World War.” He attributed this to strong geopolitical convergence, frequent leadership engagements, and shared popular sentiment.
Jaishankar arrived in Moscow on Tuesday to prepare for President Putin’s upcoming visit to India, expected in November or December. The visit is anticipated to further solidify the strategic partnership, with discussions likely covering trade, defense, and regional cooperation. The talks underscore the commitment of both nations to maintain their historically resilient relationship amidst evolving global dynamics.
