Iran has launched a new wave of extensive missile and drone attacks targeting US military bases, naval vessels, and key sites in the Gulf, following the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US-Israeli airstrikes. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) described the offensive as “Operation True Promise", signalling a sustained campaign against Washington and its allies in the region.
Several loud explosions were reported in Dubai and Doha, Qatar, as Iran targeted critical infrastructure. The IRGC stated that a ship carrying ammunition for US vessels at Jebel Ali Port was hit by four drones, causing severe damage and multiple explosions. Additionally, the American naval base in Kuwait’s Abdullah Mubarak area sustained missile and drone strikes, with Iran claiming that much of the infrastructure was destroyed and US personnel suffered casualties.
Iran also attacked Dubai Airport, one of the busiest airports globally, forcing a suspension of operations. Earlier strikes hit iconic locations, including the Burj Al Arab and the Palm Jumeirah, resulting in fires and minor injuries. The IRGC vowed to “keep the gates of hell open” for enemy units, signalling continued attacks against US and allied targets.

The strikes follow a coordinated US-Israel operation on Iranian soil named Operation Epic Fury, which targeted Tehran and other major cities after stalled nuclear talks and allegations of Iran resuming its nuclear programme. Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader since 1989, was killed in that strike, prompting the Iranian military to promise the “most ferocious offensive operation in history” against the perpetrators.
The escalating conflict has drawn international concern, with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres calling for an immediate halt to hostilities, citing “grave consequences” for global security. The European Union and Russia have also urged de-escalation and dialogue to prevent further regional destabilisation.
Global airlines and ports are already facing disruptions, with Dubai and Qatar among the hardest-hit areas. The ongoing escalation is expected to have significant implications for civilian operations, international trade, and regional security, as the US and its allies reassess military deployments and defensive postures in the Middle East.
