Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf has issued a fresh warning to the United States amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region, cautioning against what he described as American “theatrics” and pressure tactics linked to the Strait of Hormuz. In remarks shared on social media, the Iranian parliamentary speaker said any attempt to intensify pressure or pursue aggressive measures could trigger “surprising” responses from Tehran. His comments come at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty surrounding energy routes, military activity, and ongoing diplomatic deadlock between Iran and the US.
Ghalibaf accused Washington of attempting to convert negotiations into what he called a forced “surrender” by using threats and military pressure. Referring to reports of potential naval actions and regional security concerns, he warned that Iran remained prepared to respond decisively to any hostile move. The Iranian leader also questioned the economic stability of the United States, referencing the country’s growing national debt and rising financial pressures. His remarks appeared aimed at projecting both political defiance and military readiness amid increasing international attention on the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The statement came shortly after reports indicated that yields on 30-year US Treasury bonds had crossed 5% for the first time since before the 2008 global financial crisis. Analysts have linked the spike to persistent inflation concerns, global conflict risks, and fears of energy market disruptions connected to Middle East tensions. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most critical oil transit chokepoints, handling a significant share of global crude oil and liquefied natural gas shipments. Any disruption in the region is closely monitored by international markets and governments.

Iran has also maintained that it will not resume negotiations with Washington unless several conditions are met, including the lifting of sanctions and guarantees against future aggression. Relations between the two countries have remained strained over nuclear issues, regional security, and military posturing in the Gulf. Recent statements from Iranian officials suggest Tehran is continuing to adopt a firm stance while signaling that any escalation around the Hormuz corridor could have broader geopolitical and economic consequences.
