The Strait of Hormuz is under the “control and management” of Iran, Hossein Taeb, head of Iran’s Basij paramilitary unit, stated on Thursday, according to the semi-official Fars news agency. His remarks came amid sharply conflicting claims between Tehran and Washington over control of the strategically important waterway.
Taeb’s statement followed a post by US President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform a day earlier, in which Trump claimed that the United States had “total control” of the Strait of Hormuz. The competing assertions come against the backdrop of heightened tensions between Iran and the US and renewed attention on the security and movement of vessels through the key maritime route.
According to Fars, Taeb accused the United States of attempting to undermine Iran’s standing in the region by launching what he described as another war in the Strait of Hormuz. He argued that Iran had again emerged from the confrontation without being defeated, despite US claims that the Islamic Republic lacked an effective air force or navy.

“Today you see that the Strait of Hormuz is under the management and control of the Islamic Republic,” Taeb said, according to the report. He added that Iran was continuing on its course while maintaining what he described as complete security in the area.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategically significant waterway connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It is a major route for global energy shipments, making developments involving the waterway closely watched by governments, shipping companies and energy markets.
The latest statements from Taeb and Trump represent competing claims over the strategic passage and come amid broader tensions between the two countries.
