India has condemned a series of attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea region that have affected several Indian seafarers, with at least two sustaining injuries. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the incidents posed a serious threat to civilian shipping and the safety of crews working on international vessels.
Jaiswal said India had seen a string of attacks targeting commercial vessels and condemned actions that endangered seafarers. He called for an immediate end to attacks on civilian ships and urged all sides to pursue dialogue and diplomacy to reduce tensions and restore stability in the region.
One of the vessels targeted was the MV Royad Mammadov, which was attacked while sailing in the Black Sea. Three Indian nationals were among those on board, with one injured and later receiving medical treatment. The Indian Embassy in Romania remained in contact with the affected seafarers, while Jaiswal thanked Romanian authorities for their support and swift response.

In another incident, the Togo-flagged Alfa Watan was attacked on Tuesday, with the status of its crew still unknown, according to the MEA. The Palau-flagged MV ABLE was also targeted in a drone attack. All 18 crew members, including seven Indians, were rescued, although one Indian national was injured and remains under medical supervision. The Indian mission in Bulgaria is assisting the affected seafarers.
A fourth vessel, the Liberian-flagged oil tanker AFRAMAX RIO, also came under attack, with all 23 crew members rescued. According to the MEA, all members of its crew were Indian seafarers. The incidents have added to concerns over the safety of commercial shipping and maritime personnel as security risks persist across the wider Black Sea region.
India reiterated that attacks on commercial shipping should not become part of the broader regional conflict. Jaiswal called for dialogue and diplomacy to help de-escalate tensions and enable an early return to peace, while stressing the need to restore free and unimpeded navigation and commerce through international waterways.
