India and Norway on Monday held discussions on evolving global priorities and ways to further strengthen their multifaceted bilateral partnership, according to official statements and social media updates from Norwegian diplomatic representatives.
The engagement took place during a meeting between Norway’s Ambassador to India May-Elin Stener and Aparna Ray, Joint Secretary for Policy Planning and Research at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). According to the ambassador’s post on X, both sides exchanged views on key global developments and explored avenues to deepen cooperation across diverse sectors under the India–Norway partnership framework.
The discussions come shortly after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent two-day official visit to Norway, where he participated in the India-Nordic Summit and held bilateral talks with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo. During the visit, the two leaders elevated the bilateral relationship to a “Green Strategic Partnership,” with a focus on sustainability-driven collaboration.

Areas identified for enhanced cooperation include clean energy, the blue economy, green shipping, innovation, research, education, healthcare, and skill development. Both sides also discussed expanding engagement in emerging sectors such as food security, fertilisers, fisheries, and sustainable industrial development. Norway also joined the Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative, reflecting growing alignment on maritime and regional issues.
At the Business and Research Summit held in Oslo, Prime Minister Modi highlighted India’s reform trajectory and invited Norwegian investment in clean energy initiatives. He also underlined opportunities for collaboration in shipbuilding and other advanced industrial sectors, noting the potential for deeper economic and technological linkages between the two countries.
During the visit, Prime Minister Modi was also conferred with Norway’s highest civilian honour, the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, by King Harald V in Oslo. The award marked a significant diplomatic milestone and underscored the strengthening ties between India and Norway, which continue to expand under the framework of the upgraded Green Strategic Partnership.
