Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren will make his debut at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland, from January 18–24, marking a historic first for the state. The visit coincides with 25 years of Jharkhand’s statehood and reflects its ambitions to engage globally on sustainable development and investment promotion.
Following the WEF gathering, Soren is scheduled to deliver a special lecture at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford, becoming the first Indian chief minister to address the prestigious institution. The lecture will be followed by a question-and-answer session, highlighting Jharkhand’s development model and global priorities.
The Jharkhand delegation at Davos will participate in thematic sessions, structured dialogues, and official engagements at the India Pavilion and other forums. Focus areas include responsible resource governance, sustainable industrial growth, energy transition, critical minerals, and inclusive regional development, showcasing the role of sub-national governments in global economic strategies.

Several other Indian leaders, including chief ministers Devendra Fadnavis, N Chandrababu Naidu, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Mohan Yadav, and A Revanth Reddy, along with senior union ministers and over 100 CEOs, are expected to attend, signaling India’s strong presence at the global event.
After Davos, the Soren-led delegation will visit the United Kingdom to strengthen institutional, academic, and investment-oriented partnerships. The UK leg will focus on promoting innovation, knowledge exchange, education, and skilling collaborations while deepening Jharkhand-UK economic ties and global visibility.
The overarching goal of the visit is to boost Jharkhand’s international profile, attract investment, and support sustainable economic growth. Soren has instructed officials to ensure coordinated and effective representation of the state’s priorities on these global platforms, emphasizing the long-term development benefits for Jharkhand.
