Death Toll of Bangladesh Air Force F-7BGI training jet that crashed into Milestone School and College in Dhaka’s Uttara neighborhood rises to 19, including 16 students, two teachers, and the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Mohammed Toukir Islam. The devastating incident, which occurred around 1:06 PM during a routine training flight, left over 100 others injured, many with severe burns.
The jet slammed into the school’s canteen and a nearby classroom, sparking a massive fire and sending thick smoke billowing across the campus, where approximately 2,000 students from elementary to Class XII were attending classes or taking tests.
Emergency services, including firefighters, army personnel, and Border Guard Bangladesh, rushed to the scene, extinguishing the blaze by 2:45 PM and transporting the injured to hospitals like the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. At least eight victims remain in critical condition.
Interim leader Mohammed Yunus expressed profound grief, calling the loss “irreparable” and declaring a national day of mourning on July 22, with flags at half-mast across government and private institutions.
