Kim Keon Hee, wife of South Korea’s ousted former President Yoon Suk Yeol, appeared for questioning by a special prosecutor today amid allegations of stock manipulation, bribery, and interference in party nominations. The probe is one of three special investigations launched by the new liberal government targeting Yoon’s presidency, which ended in April following his brief imposition of martial law in December 2024.
Kim, arriving at the prosecutor’s office in downtown Seoul, apologized to the public, saying, “I apologise for causing concern to the people, even though I am someone insignificant.” She pledged to cooperate fully but avoided specific questions about the allegations. Dozens of Yoon’s supporters, waving South Korean and US flags, gathered outside despite light rain and heavy police presence.
The investigation examines claims that Kim and Yoon influenced the conservative People Power Party’s candidate selection for a 2022 by-election, allegedly at the behest of election broker Myung Tae-kyun. Kim also faces accusations of accepting gifts, including a necklace, through a Unification Church intermediary and involvement in a stock manipulation scheme. Yoon, rearrested in July and facing trial for rebellion, resisted questioning about his wife last week.

Yoon’s short-lived martial law decree, enacted on December 3, 2024, was overturned by lawmakers within hours. His impeachment and removal followed, with new President Lee Jae Myung approving probes into Yoon’s actions, Kim’s allegations, and a 2023 marine’s death.
