A shooting attack across multiple locations near Kochav Yair in central Israel on Sunday left one person dead and five others injured, prompting a large-scale security response and search operation by Israeli forces. Authorities said two suspects were later neutralised during the operation, while security personnel continued to scan surrounding areas for any additional attackers.
Israel’s emergency medical service, Magen David Adom (MDA), confirmed that a 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene after sustaining gunshot wounds. Five other victims were evacuated to Meir and Beilinson hospitals, with two reported to be in serious condition and three suffering moderate injuries. According to MDA, the injured included a 61-year-old woman and two men in their 30s.
Emergency responders described a chaotic situation across multiple sites, with medics treating casualties at different locations as reports of gunfire continued to emerge from nearby areas. Police sources, as cited by The New York Post, said the attack began at a petrol station near Kochav Yair before the gunmen moved through nearby communities including Tzur Yitzhak and Tzur Natan.

Gunfire was also reportedly directed at a security gate in Sal’it, escalating concerns of a coordinated assault across several points. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), working alongside police units, deployed troops to the affected areas as the situation unfolded. Officials later confirmed that two suspects, both Israeli citizens, were neutralised during exchanges with security forces, while weapons allegedly used in the attack were recovered.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he was closely monitoring the incident, while military leadership ordered continued security operations following an initial assessment. Authorities said investigations are ongoing, with large police and military deployments maintained across the region to ensure there are no further threats to civilians.
