At least one civilian was killed and three others, including a 5-year-old boy, were seriously injured in fresh clashes along the Thailand-Cambodia border on Thursday, following a sharp decline in diplomatic relations. The Thai army reported launching airstrikes on Cambodian ground targets, while Cambodia’s Defence Ministry claimed Thai jets bombed a road near the historic Preah Vihear temple.
The violence erupted in multiple contested border areas, with clashes reported in at least six locations, including near the Ta Muen Thom temple in Thailand’s Surin province and Cambodia’s Oddar Meanchey province. Thai Defence Ministry spokesperson Surasant Kongsiri stated that Cambodian forces fired into a residential area in Surin, causing the civilian casualties. Both nations accused each other of initiating the hostilities.
The escalating conflict, rooted in longstanding border disputes, has heightened tensions, with both sides deploying military forces and engaging in active combat.
