In a heart-stopping encounter at the Women's Delhi Premier League (WDPL) on Wednesday, Central Delhi Queens secured a dramatic one-wicket victory against North Delhi Strikers, chasing down 118 runs in the final over.
The Queens' chase began precariously, slipping to 43/4 as the Strikers' bowlers struck early. Monika anchored the innings with a resolute 36 off 39 balls, keeping her team in contention. The match reached a fever pitch in the final over, with the Queens needing 14 runs and only two wickets remaining.
After scoring 12 runs off the first five balls, Parunika Sisodia was stumped on a wide delivery from Nazma, leaving two runs required off the last two balls. Priya Mishra, the last batter, lofted a delivery to mid-on, where a dropped catch allowed the ball to race to the boundary, sealing a sensational win for the Queens.
For the Strikers, Nazma was the standout bowler, claiming 3 wickets for 24 runs in 3.5 overs. Earlier, the Strikers posted a modest 117/4 in 20 overs, recovering from 53/4 through an unbeaten 64-run stand between Nazma (40 off 30) and Laxmi Yadav (28 off 40). Ayushi Soni contributed a quickfire 27 off 19 balls.
