A monumental 51-foot statue of Lord Rama, the tallest of its kind in North America, was unveiled at the Hindu Heritage Center in Mississauga, Canada, marking a historic moment for the region’s cultural and spiritual landscape. Crafted by acclaimed artist Naresh Kumar Kumawat at the Matu Ram Art Center in Manesar, India, the statue was shipped in multiple pieces and meticulously assembled on-site by a team of U.S. engineers. Constructed from fibreglass and steel—materials commonly used in aircraft manufacturing—the towering structure symbolizes both artistic excellence and enduring devotion.
The inauguration ceremony drew thousands of devotees and dignitaries, including Canadian political figures such as Minister of Women and Gender Equality Rechie Valdez, Treasury Board President Shafqat Ali, and Minister of International Trade Maninder Sidhu. Their presence underscored the statue’s cultural significance, with Sidhu describing it as “something to be very proud of” for all Canadians. The event, attended by over 10,000 people, was a vibrant celebration of faith and unity, as highlighted by organizer Kushagr Sharma, who called it “a proud moment for all Canadians who value cultural harmony and spiritual heritage.”
Acharya Surinder Sharma Shastri, the Hindu Heritage Center’s founder and head priest, emphasized the statue’s deeper significance, stating, “The installation of this murti is not just a moment of pride. It is a spiritual gift to the community, a reminder that righteousness must always guide our path.” The center has already reported a surge in visitors from across North America, including New York and New Jersey, drawn to witness the majestic idol. Its strategic location near Toronto Pearson International Airport ensures the statue is among the first sights greeting arriving passengers, enhancing its visibility and symbolic welcome.
