A shocking double murder shook Pundri town in Haryana’s Kaithal district on Friday morning, with uncle Veerbhan and his nephew Rajender shot dead within minutes of each other. Both victims were residents of Pai village under Pundri police station.
Rajender was reportedly riding a two-wheeler near Jatheri village when two assailants on another bike opened fire. Shortly after, Veerbhan was shot dead a few kilometres away in Pai village. Police believe both killings are connected.
Authorities indicated that the murders may be linked to a longstanding rivalry. In 2012, a land dispute in the same area had led to two killings, and both Rajender and Veerbhan were named as accused in that case. Investigators suspect this past enmity as the primary motive behind the crime.

Kaithal Superintendent of Police Upasna visited both crime scenes and addressed the media. She confirmed that initial inputs point to an old feud, and that the DSP (Crime) is supervising the investigation. “Both deceased are from the same family. Preliminary information indicates an old enmity as the likely motive,” she said.
Multiple police units have been deployed to track down the suspects, including three CIA teams, four Special Task Force teams, and Kaithal police units. Officers in neighbouring districts have also been alerted. The accused have reportedly been identified, and arrests are expected soon.
Forensic teams have collected evidence from both crime scenes, and post-mortem examinations are underway. Police continue to probe the incident, examining links to previous disputes and questioning witnesses to reconstruct the events leading to the killings.
