A rescue helicopter has located the burning fuselage of an An-24 passenger plane operated by Siberia-based Angara Airlines, which went missing in Russia’s Amur region on Thursday after losing contact with air traffic controllers near Tynda, Reuters reported.
The aircraft, carrying approximately 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members, vanished from radar a few kilometers from Tynda Airport, according to Tass, citing sources. SHOT noted the plane was close to its destination in the Amur region, bordering China, when communication ceased.
Regional governor Vasily Orlov confirmed that “all necessary forces and means” have been deployed for the search. The emergencies ministry estimated around 40 people were on board, slightly differing from initial reports.
Rescue efforts are ongoing in the remote region, approximately 6,600 km east of Moscow, as authorities investigate the cause of the crash.
