An-24 passenger plane operated by Siberia-based Angara Airlines, carrying approximately 43 passengers, including five children, and six crew members, went missing in Russia’s far eastern Amur region on Thursday. Air traffic controllers lost contact with the aircraft as it approached Tynda, a town near the Chinese border, according to the local emergencies ministry.
Regional governor Vasily Orlov reported that the plane vanished from radar during a second landing attempt after an initial unsuccessful approach. “All necessary forces and resources have been deployed to search for the plane,” Orlov stated on Telegram.
The emergencies ministry estimated around 40 people were on board, slightly lower than initial reports. Search operations are underway to locate the aircraft in the remote Amur region, approximately 6,600 km east of Moscow.
