The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has secured all three Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh unopposed after the nomination of Congress candidate Meenakshi Natarajan was rejected during the scrutiny process. The outcome effectively eliminated any electoral contest and ensured an uncontested win for the ruling party in the state.
The Election Commission subsequently issued certificates of election to BJP candidates Tarun Chugh, Rajneesh Agrawal, and Mahesh Kevat after no opposition nominees remained in the fray following the completion of scrutiny and the withdrawal deadline. The development was formally confirmed after the nomination process concluded without any valid competing candidates.
The Congress party had fielded former MP Meenakshi Natarajan for the third seat, asserting that it had sufficient legislative strength to secure her election. However, her nomination papers were rejected on June 9 by the returning officer, a decision that has since become the centre of a political and legal dispute between the two parties.

Following the rejection, the Congress challenged the decision in court, alleging that it was arbitrary, biased, and procedurally flawed. The party has sought judicial intervention to overturn the disqualification and reinstate Natarajan’s candidature, arguing that she was unfairly excluded from the contest.
According to reports, the BJP had objected to Natarajan’s nomination, claiming that she failed to disclose a pending court matter in Hyderabad in her election affidavit. Congress leaders, however, disputed this allegation, stating that the issue pertained only to a defamation notice and did not require disclosure under election rules.
The Congress also approached the Supreme Court through senior advocate Abhishek Manu Singhvi, seeking urgent intervention to halt the declaration process before the nomination withdrawal deadline. With no opposition candidates remaining after the scrutiny stage, the BJP was declared the winner of all three Rajya Sabha seats from Madhya Pradesh.
