The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has appointed Deepak Mhaske as the party’s new social media convener as part of its latest revision of the national organisational team. Mhaske will take charge of the BJP’s social media department, with the change coming at a time when political parties are placing increasing emphasis on digital platforms to communicate directly with voters and party workers. Mhaske will be assisted by Priti Gandhi, Shivanand Dwivedi, Alok Bhatt and Arun Yadav, who have been appointed as social media co-convenors. The appointments form part of a broader organisational exercise by the BJP ahead of elections in several states.
Amit Malviya, who has been associated with the BJP’s digital and IT operations for several years, confirmed the change in a post on X. Rather than announcing the transition as a contentious development, Malviya congratulated the incoming team and specifically welcomed Mhaske as his successor in leading the party’s Social Media Department. “I wish to particularly congratulate Shri Deepak Mhaskey ji, who will be taking over from me as the head of the BJP's Social Media Department,” Malviya said in his post. He also congratulated the four newly appointed co-convenors and expressed confidence in their ability to take the party’s digital communication forward.
Malviya said he had worked closely with the members of the new team over the past decade. He described the incoming leadership as capable of taking BJP’s digital communication to “newer milestones” and said he expected it to continue shaping public discourse through what he described as conviction, creativity and clarity. The transition marks a change in leadership of one of the BJP’s most prominent communication operations. The party has built an extensive digital presence over the years, using social media platforms to disseminate political messaging, respond to opponents and communicate with supporters without relying exclusively on traditional media channels.

The appointment of a dedicated social media convener also comes as political campaigning increasingly extends beyond rallies, television appearances and print advertising. Social media platforms have become important tools for parties seeking to reach younger voters, mobilise party workers and rapidly respond to developments in the political arena. Mhaske’s new responsibilities will therefore extend across an increasingly important part of the BJP’s communication strategy. Working alongside the four co-convenors, he will oversee the party’s social media operations at the national level while coordinating with its wider organisational structure. The BJP’s latest national appointments have also brought several experienced leaders into important organisational positions.
The changes are being viewed as part of the party’s effort to strengthen its organisation and prepare for upcoming electoral contests across different states. Malviya’s message did not specify a reason for the change or indicate any disagreement with the new arrangement. Instead, he publicly endorsed Mhaske and the incoming team and highlighted his previous association with each of the new office-bearers. With Mhaske taking over the social media department, the BJP will now have a new face overseeing its national digital communication strategy. The appointment of Gandhi, Dwivedi, Bhatt and Yadav as co-convenors provides additional organisational support as the party continues to expand its engagement across digital platforms.
