In a major crackdown, Uttarakhand Police arrested a 22-year-old woman named Isha from Banbasa near the India-Nepal border, seizing 5.688 kg of MDMA (ecstasy) worth over Rs 10.23 crore in the international market. The operation, conducted near the Sharda Canal in Champawat district, marks one of the state’s largest drug seizures to date.
Following a tip-off, a joint team of Champawat Police, Pithoragarh Police, and the Special Task Force spotted Isha fleeing with a black backpack during a patrol. A search revealed two packets of MDMA, weighing 3.26 kg and 2.63 kg. Isha was detained and charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
During questioning, Isha disclosed that her husband, Rahul Kumar, and his associate, Kunal Kohli, supplied the drugs. She claimed she intended to dispose of the stash in the canal, fearing the police’s intensified anti-drug campaign. Both Kumar and Kohli, wanted in a separate Maharashtra narcotics case, remain at large, with police launching a manhunt.
