A new twist has emerged in the Haryana ASI Sandeep Kumar Lathar suicide case, with his widow alleging that “undue pressure” from IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, wife of late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, and her brother, Bathinda Rural MLA Amit Rattan, drove her husband to take his own life. An FIR has been registered against the accused officials, with the widow demanding a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the case.
According to the complaint, ASI Lathar, who was posted in the cyber cell in Rohtak, shot himself on October 14. He allegedly left behind a suicide note and a video, accusing senior officials of harassment and pressure related to a corruption case involving Puran Kumar. Days earlier, Puran Kumar himself had died by suicide at his Chandigarh residence, accusing senior police officers of caste-based harassment.
Santosh, Lathar’s wife, claimed in her FIR that her husband faced continuous threats from Puran Kumar’s aides, including gunman Sushil Kumar and another officer, Sunil Kumar, who allegedly acted under the influence of Amneet Kumar and her brother Amit Rattan. The pressure, she alleged, was linked to an ongoing vigilance inquiry into corruption charges against Puran Kumar and several IAS and IPS officers.

The complaint further accused Amneet Kumar and her family of using their political and bureaucratic positions to interfere in investigations. “Because my husband was part of the inquiry team, he was being threatened and intimidated,” Santosh said. She also alleged that the accused were attempting to suppress government action by misusing their influence within the Scheduled Castes Commission.
Seeking justice, Santosh has demanded that the government initiate a CBI investigation and examine the wealth and properties of the accused officials. “This is a fight between honest and corrupt officers. My husband chose the path of truth and paid the price for it,” she said. The case has stirred political and administrative circles in Haryana, with both suicides now raising troubling questions about systemic corruption and accountability in the state’s bureaucracy.
