A 15-year-old girl's mutilated body was discovered in a garden near her home in Bahraich on Monday, two days after she vanished, revealing a horrific case of torture and suspected rape. The victim, whose throat was slit and limbs broken, had sand and glue forced into her nostrils, according to family accounts and initial police findings. Her brother filed a kidnapping complaint on Sunday against three local men, prompting a swift search that ended in tragedy amid cries from grieving relatives insisting she was sexually assaulted before being killed.
Police arrested one suspect shortly after the recovery, with Circle Officer Harshita Tiwari confirming a case registered under sections for murder, kidnapping, and rape. The teenager's body, bearing extensive bruises, was sent for autopsy to determine the exact sequence of injuries and confirm sexual violence. Tiwari stated investigations are pursuing all leads, including forensic evidence and witness statements, as the community reels from the brutality in the Mihipurwa area.
The girl's disappearance on Saturday escalated when she failed to return home, leading to accusations against neighbours with alleged prior disputes. Family members wailed at the scene, one repeatedly shouting claims of rape while cradling her remains. This incident spotlights Uttar Pradesh's persistent challenges with crimes against minors, where over 50,000 child rape cases were reported nationally in 2024 per NCRB data, often in rural pockets with delayed reporting.
