Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested two terrorists in the border district of Poonch disrupting a potential terror plot. The operation, conducted in the early hours, led to the apprehension of Tariq Sheikh from Azamabad and his associate Riyaz Ahmad from Chamber village, along with the recovery of two assault rifles and a cache of ammunition, officials confirmed.
Acting on intelligence inputs, a police team raided Sheikh’s residence in Azamabad, apprehending both suspects. Following intense questioning, the duo revealed the location of a hidden arms stash in Sheikh’s rented accommodation in Jallian village. A subsequent raid uncovered the weapons, which included high-powered rifles and live ammunition, signaling a serious threat to regional security.
The arrests come amid heightened security concerns in Poonch, a strategically sensitive district along the Line of Control (LoC), known for its vulnerability to cross-border infiltration. Authorities suspect the weapons were intended for subversive activities aimed at destabilizing the region. The police are now investigating the duo’s potential links to terror networks and their plans for the seized arsenal.
