West Bengal Police on Monday arrested Alim Molla, the truck driver accused in the fatal road accident that claimed the life of Satyajit Ghosh, the younger son of Bhola Ghosh, a key witness in a criminal case against suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan. Molla was apprehended early morning from a secret location in North 24 Parganas, though authorities declined to reveal further details.
The arrest marks the fifth in the case and the second among the 10 names identified by Bhola Ghosh at Nazat Police Station earlier this month. Three other individuals previously arrested were not named in Ghosh’s complaint, reflecting the ongoing complexity of the investigation.
Satyajit Ghosh died on December 10 when a truck allegedly rammed the vehicle he was traveling in with his father en route to the district court. Bhola Ghosh narrowly survived the crash, while their driver, Shahnur Molla, succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision. The incident has been widely viewed as an attack aimed at Bhola Ghosh.

Bhola Ghosh has consistently stated that he was the intended target due to his role as a key witness against Shahjahan. He claimed that the 16-wheel truck involved was driven by Alim Molla. Eyewitness accounts later corroborated that the truck repeatedly hit their vehicle from behind, eventually forcing it into a roadside water body along Basanti Highways.
Molla is scheduled to be presented before a district court in North 24 Parganas, where the public prosecutor will seek police custody for further interrogation. Authorities are investigating the roles of other accused individuals to establish the full circumstances leading to the fatal crash.
Police and witnesses continue to piece together the sequence of events. The arrest of Alim Molla is seen as a crucial step in advancing the investigation and ensuring accountability in a case that has drawn significant attention for its political and criminal implications in the region.
