Tripura Police successfully thwarted a significant terrorist plot aimed at disrupting the state’s 79th Independence Day celebrations. Acting on a tip-off, authorities intercepted a vehicle at Vanghmun in North Tripura on Thursday evening, leading to the arrest of two individuals identified as suspected members of the newly formed Tripura United National Force (TUNF). The operation, executed with precision, prevented what could have been a devastating attack on the state’s security infrastructure.
The arrested individuals, Dhananjoy Reang from Katlichhera, Assam, and Sadai Nanda Reang from Kasko, Damchhera, North Tripura, were found in possession of 14 electric detonators and neogel explosives. According to SP Avinash Kumar Rai, preliminary investigations revealed that the duo had conspired to destabilize the state by targeting police personnel, damaging police vehicles, and snatching arms and ammunition. The planned attack was intended to draw public attention and disrupt the festive atmosphere of Independence Day.
“The swift operation averted a major security incident,” SP Rai stated, emphasizing the police’s proactive measures in neutralizing the threat. The arrests underscore Tripura’s heightened security measures during national celebrations and the ongoing efforts to counter emerging militant groups like the TUNF.
As investigations continue, authorities remain vigilant to ensure the safety and stability of the region, reinforcing their commitment to safeguarding citizens during significant national events.
