A horrific triple murder unfolded in a village under the Ganga Nagar police jurisdiction in Uttar Pradesh, where a man allegedly killed his father, sister, and teenage niece with an axe following a prolonged dispute over family land, before concealing their bodies in a nearby well, authorities reported on Monday, January 6, 2026.
The suspect, identified as Mukesh Patel, was taken into custody after his younger brother Mukund Patel filed a missing persons report on Sunday, expressing direct suspicions about Mukesh's involvement in the disappearance of their father Ram Singh, aged 55, sister Sadhana, aged 21, and niece Aastha, aged 14.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Gunawat, intense interrogation by police and a special operations group led Mukesh to confess that his rage stemmed from their father transferring four bighas of agricultural land exclusively to Mukund, despite Mukesh's repeated demands for a 10-biswa share, escalating tensions that had simmered within the family for an extended period.

On the night of January 2, under cover of dense fog, Mukesh allegedly entered the family home with murderous intent, initially attempting to strangle his father before his sister and niece intervened; in a fit of fury, he seized a nearby axe and fatally struck all three victims, then dragged and dumped their bodies into a well close to the residence, covering the site with straw to evade detection.
Following the confession, recovery operations retrieved the three bodies from the well along with the bloodstained axe used in the crime, while a search of Mukesh's possessions yielded a country-made pistol and two live cartridges; an FIR has been lodged at Mauaima police station, the bodies sent for postmortem examination, and investigations continue into the full circumstances surrounding this brutal family tragedy.
