A 30-year-old woman and her three daughters, aged 13, 11, and 8, were found hanging from a ceiling fan in their Bhiwandi home on Saturday morning, police reported.
The grim discovery was made by the woman’s husband, a textile unit worker, upon returning from his night shift in the Fene Pada area, according to Senior Police Inspector Krushnadev Kharade of Bhiwandi Shahar Police Station.
Police have registered an accidental death case and are probing whether the deaths were a collective suicide, or if the woman killed her daughters before taking her own life.

No suicide note was found, and financial distress is among the angles being explored, though the family showed no prior signs of severe hardship.
The bodies were sent for post-mortem at a government hospital, with results pending to determine the exact cause of death. Investigations include questioning relatives and neighbors, who expressed shock, noting the family appeared stable.
Local authorities have urged calm as the community grapples with the tragedy. The police are also examining the husband’s statement and forensic evidence to rule out foul play. Further details are awaited as the investigation progresses in this heart-wrenching case.
