A Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, Piyush Ghosh, aged 42, was brutally shot dead near his home in Komarpur village, Birbhum district, early Sunday. The Srinidhipur panchayat president was attacked by gunmen, with one bullet fired at close range, police reported. Three suspects, including two women, have been detained as authorities investigate potential business disputes behind the killing.
This marks the third TMC leader murdered in West Bengal within days. On July 10, Abul Kalam Azad, a TMC panchayat worker, was hacked to death during his birthday celebration in Malda’s English Bazar. Days later, Rajjak Khan, a TMC committee president in Bhangar, South 24 Parganas, was killed on Thursday. Police are probing possible motives, with local rivalries and business conflicts under scrutiny. The string of murders has raised concerns about political violence in the state.
