A Trinamool Congress (TMC) activist, Sasthi Ghosh, was allegedly hacked to death by unidentified assailants in Bharatpur, Murshidabad district, West Bengal, on Wednesday night, according to a senior police officer. The attack occurred as Ghosh was returning home, with the assailants using a sharp weapon to fatally wound him. Found in a pool of blood, Ghosh was rushed to a local hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
Police suspect personal enmity, possibly over property disputes, as a potential motive, though a detailed investigation is ongoing to confirm the cause. A manhunt has been launched to apprehend the culprits. Ghosh’s family, however, claims the murder was linked to his TMC affiliation.
In a separate incident, the nephew of a panchayat member was found hacked to death in an open field in Madhusudanpur, South 24 Parganas district, on Wednesday. Police have initiated a probe into this killing, which occurred hours after the youth left home.
